Figure historique du folk britannique des années 70 grâce au fameux duo formé avec son mari le guitariste Richard Thompson, Linda Thompson revient là où on ne l'attendait pas. Enregistré en mai 2005 dans un théâtre underground londonien (à l'exception de trois titres), le spectacle My Mother Doesn't Know I'm On Stage est un bel hommage au music-hall britannique des XIXe et XXe siècles. Disponible sur CD depuis 2018 grâce au label Omnivore Recordings, ce disque réunit une collection de standards humoristiques, théâtrales et populaires interprétées par un casting prestigieux. Si Linda n'apparaît que sur quatre titres, elle a réuni autour de son projet quelques belles têtes d'affiches parmi lesquelles l'acteur Colin Firth, le showman Roy Hudd, les présentateurs télé Jools Holland et John Foreman, son fils Teddy Thompson, son beau-fils James Walbourne des Pretenders, le pianiste Steven Large de Weezer, les chanteuses folks Martha Wainwright et Cara Dillon accompagnée de son mari Sam Lakeman, ainsi que Bob Davenport, légende du folk, et Justin Vivian Bond, chanteuse de cabaret. Fermez les yeux et laissez-vous entraîner dans ces lieux magiques d'un autre temps où l'on venait rire, chanter, fumer, boire, et, surtout, oublier les soucis du quotidien...
